Wendell C. & Martha M. Franklin

It would not be appropriate to write a separate biography for either Wendell or Martha Franklin for this occasion, as together they define the true meaning of being a couple. United since they met and became high school sweethearts, they married in 1964 and soon started their family. Both have built successful careers in real estate. Martha was a Community Manager for S.L. Nusbaum for many years and was later a real estate agent for Goodman Segar Hogan. She retired from S.L. Nusbaum in 1982. Wendell joined S.L. Nusbaum in 1973 and today is a Partner, Senior Vice President and Department Head for Multi-Family Development. Wendell is also President of S.L. Nusbaum Mortgage Company.

The Franklins' focus on business has always been accompanied by a loving focus on family and the community. They are fervent believers in giving back and have encouraged their entire family to do the same. Wendell and Martha financially support CHKD, Norfolk Collegiate School, St. Jude, Horizons Hampton Roads, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Virginia Wesleyan College. Wendell served on Norfolk collegiate School's Board of Directors for twelve years, is past Trustee of Virginia Wesleyan College, and is a member of Heritage Bank's Board of Directors. Martha served on the original Board of Operation Smile; she also served on CHKD's Board of Directors. Over the years, they have thrown countless fundraisers for all of these organizations. They continually set examples of unselfishness by giving their time and resources in the service of others.

Martha and Wendell take their greatest pride in their family: Stefanie, Matt, Amy, Bill, Taylor, and Emily and their three grandchildren Zoe, Hunter, and Caymus. Their philosophy has been instilled in all of their children and grandchildren who live in and give back to the community that has given them so much. Let's celebrate this wonderful couple- Wendell & Martha Franklin.
