Horizons Hampton Roads is an independent program and not a part of either the public school systems, Cape Henry or Norfolk Collegiate Schools. As a partner with Horizons Hampton Roads, Norfolk Collegiate School provides the place for summer sessions each year AND a wealth of expertise, and administrative help. Founded in 1948, Norfolk Collegiate School began as a pre-school and kindergarten named Carolton Oaks School. In 1950, it moved to Granby Street. Fifteen years later (1963), the first high school class graduated. In 1973, it added the Tidewater Drive facility for the Lower School, and the name was changed to Norfolk Collegiate School. A new building was completed on that site in 1999, and a new Middle School building and athletic complex was completed at the Granby Street campus in 2005. The school is a co-educational, K through 12 day school with 880 students engaged in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Excellent athletic and extracurricular programs complement a curriculum with a rich selection of Advanced Placement courses in the upper grades. Norfolk Collegiate School is accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools (VAIS) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). The school is guided by an honor pledge and fosters in each student a continuing desire to learn, to understand, and to serve society responsibly. Horizons Hampton Roads policies for families can be found in our Family Handbook. More information about the Norfolk Horizons program can be found in the Family Information Booklet.
